Abstract: Trade is extremely important for Chile’s economy, accounting for 68 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2007, according to the United Nation’s Economic Commission for Latin America. Agribusiness trade has played an important part in developing and maintaining Chile’s position as an export-oriented economy. The policy environment in which Chile’s agribusiness industry has developed has been supportive of its export orientation.
