Abstract: Traditionally, the United States (U.S.) has had a strong position in the global potato sector. The country is the world’s fifth largest producer of potatoes and the fourth largest exporter of frozen french fries. Nevertheless, over the past decade, the U.S. potato sector has been hit by excess supply and decreasing demand from developed countries. Consequently, potato prices have dropped and have been in some cases too low to compensate farmers for their production costs.
