Abstract: Bananas are the leading global fresh fruit in terms of the volume of trade, with a trade value of almost EUR 6 billion. In contrast to the production of bananas, which takes place in 130 countries in the tropics, exports are very concentrated with five countries – Ecuador, Costa Rica, the Philippines, Colombia and Guatemala – accounting for around 70% of world banana exports.
