Abstract: The United States (U.S.) meat (beef, pork and poultry) industry is becoming increasingly reliant on consumers outside of the U.S. as production levels inch ever higher and domestic demand remains relatively static. Add to the mix the ongoing competition for feedstuffs and intensifying competition from low-cost meat producers in countries such as Brazil, and there will be no let up in terms of challenges for industry participants in 2008.
