Abstract: The United States (U.S.) cotton growing sector continues to struggle. After peaking above USD 0.80 per pound in late 2003, cotton prices have averaged around USD 0.50 for the past three years. Prices have remained low under the pressure of increasing global competition from other producers, particularly India, a lull in purchases from China and a build up of stocks in the U.S.
