Abstract: Australian and New Zealand beef exporters have enjoyed a period of buoyant international prices over recent years. The absence of Canada and the United States (US) from key North Asian beef destinations since 2003 due to the discovery of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), combined with the exclusion of Brazil and Argentina, has allowed Australia and New Zealand to dominate the imported beef sector of the high-value Japanese and Korean markets.
