Abstract: The United States (U.S.) sugar beet segment continues to face the uncertainty of several major regulatory changes. The potential effects of unrestricted sugar and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) trade with Mexico from the start of 2008 continue to be widely debated. The final outcome of the 2007 Farm Bill negotiations will also have important ramifications for the segment. Favorable climatic conditions are likely to see record sugar beet yields in 2007, and a record harvest as a result. Research Type: Ag Focus
