Abstract: In the United States (U.S.), food retail sales have grown by 2.85 percent per annum for the past five years, and increased by 4.2 percent from USD 445 billion in 2004 to USD 464 billion in 2005.Consumer spending is expected to slow slightly, in line with increased interest rates and high energy prices, and so growth of the food retail sector could moderate to between 3 percent and 4 percent in 2006.
