Abstract: The Canadian food retail sector grew strongly in 2005 achieving sales of CAD 71.5 billion. The larger supermarkets drove that growth with a 5 percent increase in sales compared to 3.5 percent for the convenience and specialty food store channels. The traditional grocery segment, comprised of supermarkets, specialty food stores and convenience stores, remains a strong and consolidated player within the grocery sector.
