Abstract: After three straight almond crops that exceeded 1 billion pounds, United States (U.S.) almond production declined to roughly 900 million pounds in 2005.Yields were approximately 12 percent lower than year-earlier levels due to rainy weather during the bloom stage. Despite lower yields, California’s 2005 crop was still the fourth largest on record. Bearing acreage has risen 36 percent over the past decade, which has boosted the overall crop potential.
