Abstract: China’s land policy has been one of the determinants of the development of China’s agriculture, rural economy, and farmers’ living standards. After two decades of continuous growth, the efficiency gains from the last land reform carried out in the early 1980s are now tailing off, and new challenges confront the further development of China’s agriculture. In response to this, the Rural Land Contract Law (the Law) was formulated and came into effect on March 1, 2003.
