Abstract: Beer is a very popular alcoholic beverage in Japan, accounting for 50% of total alcoholic beverages by value and 70% by volume. The Japanese total beer market size was 3.2 trillion yen (USD 27.3 billion, 2001 basis), and by volumes, approximately 69.2 million hectolitres (2002 basis, 1 hectolitre = 100 litres).
